Installation Piece: ‘My Suspended Magic Hour’, 2018

The concept for this art installation stemmed from extensive research conducted for Pavlides’ dissertation on the Magic Hour, coupled with a desire to provide viewers with continual access to this fleeting phenomenon. A 20-meter room was constructed and divided into two sections by a central wall, featuring an old window and door. One half of the room was equipped with an old tungsten film light, while the other half was furnished with an armchair and carpet, inviting individuals to sit and immerse themselves in the experience of the unique, warm lighting. This installation effectively melds art, research and philosophical nostalgia to enable audiences to connect with the concept of the Magic Hour in an engaging and sensory manner. For Pavlides, the sensory and the experiential are the pinnacle of human life. With the rise of the attention economy and online marketing strategies, along with the imminent and unstoppable force of Chatgtp, Midjourney and AI, it is clear the prioritisation of nature, appreciation and human connection is the only way forward for a positive and accountable future.
